The race has begun for the first lot of positions in Bougainville’s pubic service.
President, Chief Doctor John Momis, said the new appointments, will be the tool and way forward, for the administration to work under the new public service structure.
Following the new Bougainville Public Service launching in May this year, the selection process that will determine the top level management has now begun.
Chief Momis said over 160 applications for the Chief Secretary position, and over ten for 13 departmental heads, including the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, were received.
An independent panel of three will make recommendations to the Bougainville Senior Appointments Committee for the Chief Secretary’s appointment.
Two appointments expected before Christmas are for the Chief Secretary and Bougainville Electoral Commissioner.
The remaining appointments of departmental heads will be made early next year.
Chief Momis said leadership must change the public service culture to its former position as the best performing and premier government in Papua New Guinea.
Chief Momis said the Bougainville Public Service is responsible for the direction of Cabinet and the Bougainville House of Representatives.
