Australian Sailors confirmed for 2015 Pacific Games

Following the announcement of Australia and New Zealand’s participation in the 2015 Pacific Games, Australian sailors are set and ready to compete.

The Games Organising Committee requested the Australian Olympic Committee to send athletes to compete in Rugby 7’s, Sailing, Taekwondo and Weightlifting.

With an estimate of 3000 athletes to reside on the shores of Papua New Guinea come the 4th July 2015, the inaugural Australian Pacific Games Team have confirmed a contingent of between 40-70 athletes.

The inclusion of Australia and New Zealand not only demands the successful roll out of the games, with millions of viewers tuning in to the country, but will also encourage some tough competition.

With Australia yet to confirm their rugby 7’s team for the Games next year, the PNG Pukpuks and Fiji Seven’s teams will certainly put on a showcase during the 2 weeks of competition.

Sailing at the Pacific Games

There will be three boat classes included in the Pacific Games competition:

Events:

  • Single Handed Men – Laser Standard
  • Single Handed Women – Laser Radial
  • Multihull Open – Hobie 16
