More accusations against police personnel, this time a 17 year old girl was beaten by an off duty police officer after a birthday party over the weekend.
The confrontation began after the girl claimed she was indecently touched by the husband of the police officer’s sister.
The victim, a 17 year old girl, who wished not to be shown on camera, told a traumatic experience she went through, around 3 am on Saturday morning. It was after a birthday party, she was travelling in a bus along with others who had attended the party, ready to be dropped home at her home in Mahuru.
On the bus, she claimed she was touched by a married policeman in an inappropriate manner. She became vocal about the matter. That’s when all hell broke loose.
She remembered losing her balance, then kicked and beaten by the police officer and others while she lay helpless on the ground.
After seeking medical attention from the Paradise Private hospital, she had 5 stitches to her head. Her father, Johnson Luimack, expressed outrage.
The matter was reported to the Boroko police station; however no charges have been laid until a full medical report is handed over to the police. The incident comes days after a woman was assaulted by her abusive Police man husband. Nancy Sam is in fear of her life, as she claims her husband is in possession of firearms.
Also, a shop owner in Port Moresby's Gerehu Suburb, lost more than ten thousand in cash and store goods, after police officers forcefully entered his shop on Easter Sunday.
The top management of the police force is aware of the report, and other queries raised by the media in relation to police brutality and abuse of rights.
