AFTER 20 YEARS OF ISOLATION, FIRST VEHICLE REACHES REMOTE LOWER USINO-BUNDI VILLAGE

People of remote Uva Village, in the Usino-Bundi District, have seen their first-ever vehicle arrive, marking the end of twenty years of isolation

This milestone was made possible by the construction of the Miduvu Way, which connects Brahman Station to Bundi Station. Designed under the ‘Connect PNG’ program, the road project is part of the Marape-Roso government’s initiative to decentralize goods and services, ultimately improving livelihoods for marginalized rural populations. Once complete, the road will link Chimbu, and Madang.

The people shared tears, and expressed heartfelt gratitude towards their member Vincent Kumura, and the DDA team for being on the ground delivering vital road project for both lower and upper Bundi.

Michael Deva from Uva Village shared his story stating that the road has been cut off from them ever since at his young age.

“I came and settled in Uva village in 1999. That’s when the road access has been starting to completely cut off. I was at a young age and have not yet married. We stayed in isolation over the years and along that time I got married and have children.

“During those years, the road has been covered with bush for almost 25 years till recently the machines started coming in working on the road again.” Said Deva.

He also added that over the past few years there has been plans to revive the road but was unsuccessful till recently the road project was launched. Mr. Deva thanked the member for Usino Bundi, Vincent Kumura, and said but under the leadership of member the machines came in and started working.
The road will now serve the local farmers, public servants especially, health workers and teachers, churches and general public who have been struggling for more than two decades to access goods and services from town.

The Usino Bundi District Administrator, Johnson Wai, reaffirmed the LLG’s commitment stating that the respective authorities will work together in making sure the people received vital services and improve livelihoods.

“Our good open member Hon. MP Kumura is a young vibrant visionary leader and his committed in serving making sure we received vital services and improve our livelihoods. Thus, I as your DA would like to see we create good communication and work together with our authorities and development partners to see socio-economic developments in our LLG and District,” said Jonson Wai.
