Team PNG Wrap Up

The dust settled and the fever gone but the legacy still remains at Glasgow, where the 20th Commonwealth Games was successfully staged.

But for us, the duo from the Hanuabada village in nation’s capital was the talk of the day as the nation prepares to host the 15th Pacific Games.

Dika Toua, a mother of two is a living testimony of determination, courage and sacrifice to all athletes who will be targeting for gold in the Pacific Games.

Steven Kari, our champion has all the reasons to smile.

Proudly standing tall with the Prime Minister Peter O&rsquO’Neill at the Parliament House is our golden pair Steven Kari and Dika Toua.

Toua 30 and Kari who just turned 21 were humbled to be in the presence of Prime Minister Peter O&rsquO’Neill, Wife Linda Babao and elated Sport Minister Justin Tkatchenko who has been with the team since day one.

It was an epic moment of pure celebration for Papua New Guinea to return home with Gold with rankings of 16 out of the 71 participating Commonwealth Nations.

The duo had all the reasons to smile while displaying their spoils around the city.

They were given a royal reception at the home base where they had started from under a mango tree for Steven Kari to a world class facility in New Caledonia.

Trukai Industry has been a leading supporter of weightlifting in the country.  Trukai has come good with a whooping two hundred thousand kina to refurbish Hanuabada Weightlifting and closely supported by the Motu Koita Assembly.

The Government also delivered the promised incentives noting the level competition the athletes had gone through before the home soil campaign come 2015.

Meanwhile the amount of time and effort put on together by the construction work are confidently on the trot with the scheduled deadline before the opening ceremony on July 4th, 2015.
