The Enga people have come together to host the twentieth Enga Cultural Show.
The show saw an overwhelming participation of forty seven sing-sing groups from the province and around the country.
Enga Governor Peter Ipatas officially opened the show yesterday in Wabag town.
Thousands flocked into Wabag town to get a glimpse of Enga’s pristine culture of sing-sing groups and colorful body attire.
But the Enga 20th Cultural Show was different from past shows, a record of 27 groups within the province took centre stage to perform.
However, it was not only the Engan’s that became proud and showcased their tradition, the show saw dancers from neighboring highlands provinces as well as dancers from Morobe, Western, Madang, Manus and Trobriand Dancers from Milne Bay province.
Governor Ipatas said the show was remarkable because of people’s behavior and police presence.
Special features of the show included weaving, house making, stone axe chopping and salt making…a tradition which is slowly dying out as expressed by Marcus Kaibin from Pilikambi in Laiagam.
Today will see the battle of bands with a special feature by Madang Artist Gedix Atege.
