Muruks New Nest

It was all perky with excitement as the Muruks team nestled into their new nest.

The Digicel Cup Contender, currently sitting on the second spot in the North West pool, received tremendous support from their provincial government and sponsors.

They now have players’ living quarters and a state of the art gymnasium Centre.

The provincial flag bearer of the Southern Highlands called this year ‘as the year of development’, after resettlement out from Lae to Mendi last year.

Being a team focused on nurturing and developing raw local talent to footy stars, is all they could ask for this season and onwards as they continue receiving the support and expertise from the Southern Highlands provincial government and sponsors.

The team nearly missed out last season, but was fortunate to have the support from their leaders which resulted with positive outcomes from the PNG National Rugby League Board to have them back in the competition.

Member for Imbongu, Francis Awesa, Southern Highlands Governor, William Powi, major sponsor Petroleum Resource Kutubu Chairman, Augustine Mano, and Mendi Muruks club flocked the Kiburu lodge recently to witness the opening of the Muruks new nest.

A new gymnasium facility worth K250, 000 was equipped with state of the art equipment.

A living quarter for players worth K480, 000 will cater for two players to a room and also has a standard conference room and kitchen.

Major sponsor in Petroleum Resource Kutubu Limited presented K1 million to the club while the Southern Highlands Government pledged another K1 million.

The money is an investment to have the team produce quality footy to revamp the lost pride of once known Muruks team in the past.

The team promised not to buy big-name players and concentrate on giving prominence to local talents.
