Bougainville Executive Council Revises Laws

The Bougainville Executive Council has approved and gazetted three laws, set to be implemented immediately in May.

These laws were recently passed in the Bougainville House of Representative's Special Sitting.

The laws include: The Bougainville Public Service Management and Administration Act, The Bougainville Finance Management and Administration Act and The Bougainville Contract’s and Tender’s Act.

Under the new Public Service Law, the Chief Administrator is now the Chief Secretary.

The ABG Public Service Minister is now the Administrative Services Minister.

Chief Secretary Chris Siriosi told EMTV News from Buka today that directions have been made to appoint a committee to prepare structures for the Bougainville Public Service.

ABG Ministers will coordinate departmental roles and functions, with Secretaries, reporting directly to them. Five Divisions upgraded to become Departments are the President and the Bougainville Executive Council, Administrative Services, Mining, Education and Health.

All public servants from the National Government will become ABG public servants with records and entitlements transferred.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary said he wants to see an effective and efficient public service corrupt free, accountable and not politicised.

A public service that will develop, implement and create employment space for young people.
