A total of five Tuffer thanks have been donated by Leon Hardware to the Erima community in Port Moresby to address the water shortage in the area.
This is the first of a total of twenty 3,500 liters Tuffer tanks pledge by Leon to be given to Erima community in the current El Nino period.
The five tanks were handed to the Erima Community leaders at Leon Hardware Seven Mile yard and was transported to Erima Community yesterday.
These tanks will be strategically installed in and around Erima for the public to store and access clean water for strictly for cooking and drinking.
Erima Community chairman David Pake said water is a hardship they have been facing for a very long time and the reduced rainfall due to the current weather condition has put more pressure on the community. He said Water PNG supplies water into the area about once a week and their water taps are always dry.
“The water supply goes on and off and we do not have reserve tanks to store water. We go through hard time store clean water,” Pake said.
“Its dry season and Leon gave us these tanks to serve us all in Erima Community. We will try and install these tanks in areas that will benefit certain number of households in the community. We go without water for over a week or two and we usually carry buckets and search for water everywhere but today Lean has came in to assist us. They will give us twenty tanks and this is the first five tanks.”
Situated beside the Erima community, Lean Hardware received praise for its community initiative in making sure students, mothers and working class men and women and the wider community in the area benefit from clean water.
The presentation of tanks was witnessed by Lean Hardware management, North East Electorate representatives and the Erima community leaders and the wider community members.
A youth leader in the area, Larsen Yaka also shared his sentiment to the Lean for their continued support to the Erima community.
He said though many people see Erima as a dangerous neighborhood it is in such partnership and assistance that will better the place for everyone.
“Thank you Leon Hard for the support. You’ve supported us last year during our show and Christmas games. We look forward to work in a community and business partnership,” Larsen said.
