Jiwaka: K60 Million For Provincial Headquarters Construction

Jiwaka Province has already received K60 million for the construction of its Provincial Headquarters building.

The funding from the National Government is part of the K82 million proposal submitted by the provincial government for this purpose.

Jiwaka Governor, William Tongamp, replied to criticisms about the new provincial headquarters. He says all planning and location selection for the headquarters has gone through the normal lawful process.

Leaders from Jiwaka have raised concern about the location, where the headquarters is being built. They say there is no existing infrastructure, and the land is under agricultural lease.

Simon Koiam, a leader from South Waghi, and former politician, says the decision for Kurumul will cost the provincial government millions of kina.

Jiwaka Governor, William Tongamp, responded saying the decision for Kurumul was made by the Provincial Executive Council, and no alterations will be made to that decision.

Dr. Tongamp says the PEC approved for a close bidding process for the construction of the provincial headquarters, and the PEC has requested for the National government to approve ESSAR as the contractor. He said the title holder has surrendered the land to the provincial government, and the process of it getting registered as an urban development lease.

Governor Tongamp says ESSAR, was chosen because it is already mobilized in Western Highlands, constructing the provincial headquarters for Western Highlands.
