The illegal impounding of a 25 seater PMV bus by police at Hohola Police Station, has been condemned by NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa.
The PMV bus was held at gunpoint by a commanding officer with 4 other police officers, and taken to Hohola Station on the 22nd of February this year.
The bus was taken because of a debt owed by the bus mechanic, to a complainant.
Bus owner Michael Nikints, up fronted at the Hohola Police Station, to retrieve his bus, but was demanded to pay K1, 500 to the police.
The matter was reported to Boroko Police Station, and attempts to get hold of the bus failed.
Bus owner Mr Nikints, was disappointed with the action taken by the police and questioned their responsibilities. “They also threatened me not to continue my PMV services,” he added.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa, gave directions to the Hohola Police and the bus is now at the Boroko Police Station. Commander Bawa said the action was unnecessary and irrelevant.
The police officers involved are now under interrogation, and will be penalized by the force.
