After a successful two weeks of training prior to their departure to Hong Kong, the PNG Palais are set to face their first IRB competition under newly-recruited coach, Elenoa Kunutuba.
The team was cool, calm and collected, as they were preparing for departure to Hong Kong. Head Coach Elenoa Kunutuba, and team Captain Dulcie Bomai, were both hopeful and confident that, the team would succeed in terms of building up their form towards the South Pacific Games in 2015.
Despite being drawn against Brazil in Pool B of the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, Coach Elenoa defined that she and her team, over the duration of their two weeks at camp, covered a number of set plays, in order to execute the Brazilians who are otherwise known for their freakish line-breaks.
The PNG Palais are travelling with high and uplifted spirits not only on the appointment of their coach, but with the inclusion of new faces to the team. With a total of six debutants, Brisbane based debutant; Marlugu Dixon’s experience is something coach Kunutuba made strong remarks on.
Regular and consistent Port Moresby based players; Cassandra Sampson, Dulcie Bomai (captain), Jemima Meraujah, and Kymie Rapilla, add yet another touch of experience, and maturity towards the young group of girls.
Palais will take on Brazil in an opening match to their Pool on Friday 28 March.
