The PNG LNG Project is on schedule, to produce its first liquefied natural gas cargo, mid this year.
ExxonMobil PNG Limited Senior Project Manager, Sam Roxburgh, made this announcement following the completion of its 292 kilometer onshore section of the pipeline.
The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant to the Omati River in the Gulf Province.
The onshore pipeline, which rises 2100 meters above sea level in some areas, is an important milestone for the PNG LNG Project, as preparations continue for LNG production this year.
Mr. Roxburgh said this is yet another milestone for the project and a great achievement for ExxonMobil PNG, pipeline contractor Spiecapag and, most importantly, for the people of Papua New Guinea.
He said the project team has worked in challenging conditions, including remote locations, steep terrain, high rainfall, flooding and large areas of swamp land, to build this pipeline.
The pipeline took the team 4 years to build.
This pipeline will transport natural gas from the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant in the Southern Highlands Province, down to the Omati River in the Gulf Province.
The pipeline diameter ranges from 32 to 34 inches. In excess of 250 billion cubic meters of gas, are anticipated to be transported through the pipeline during the life of the project.
ExxonMobil is confident the pipeline has been routed and constructed to avoid wildlife habitat and cultural areas, all in all, to minimize the project’s environmental footprint.
Native vegetation has also been replanted along the onshore pipeline route.
