Public Backs Juffa After Vote Of No Confidence Threat
By Scott Waide โ EM TV, Laeย
There has been a strong outpouring ofย public support for Oroย Governor, Gary Juffa,ย amidstย movesย to have him ousted in a vote of no confidenceย byย several local level government presidents and Ijivitari MP, David Arore.
ย
Seven council presidents from various parts of the province released a statementย announcingย their intention toย initiate a motionย againstย governor Juffa.
ย
But the move has,ย apparently,ย drawn very little public supportย both in the province and the rest of Papua New Guinea.ย ย
ย
Garry Juffa went on national radio this morningย toย clearย doubts and at the same time question the intentions of the seven councilors.
ย
โIf there is an alternative,ย then I will gladly step aside and work with them,โ heย told Radio host Roger Hauโofa. โUnfortunately,ย the alternative is not better. It is frightening!โ
ย
The show drew callers from all overย country who expressed strong supportย for Juffa.
ย
Much of the publicย support is backing Garry Juffaโs hardline stand against illegal logging and abuses in the Oro Provincial administration.
ย
Based on the auditor generalโs investigations, the Juffa administration has been clamping down on abuses highlightedย in the investigations reports. So far, 11 public servants have been criminally charged.ย
ย
Last month, a provincial treasury official and her husband were arrestedย and charged for stealing K400,000.
