HYBRID COCOA SEEDLINGS DISTRIBUTION CONTINUES IN HUON GULF

By Ancilla Ilave

The Huon Gulf District in Morobe is continuing to support its cocoa development project through the distribution and cultivation of hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers across its three Local Level Governments.

According to the District’s administration report, the distribution aims to strengthen local farmers’ participation in the cocoa industry and improve their livelihoods.

District Administrator Andrew Namuesh said proper care and monitoring of the seedlings as they develop remains essential to achieving the desired outcomes of improving and enhancing cocoa production in the district.

“The initiative aims to create opportunities for farmers to expand cocoa cultivation, increase future production, and contribute to economic development within Huon Gulf District, Morobe, and PNG as a whole,” Mr Namuesh said.

He said the district’s continued focus on cocoa development reflects the importance of agriculture as a pathway to sustainable rural livelihoods and long-term economic opportunities for local communities.
