WEWAK MP SURRENDERS SON OVER ALLEGED MURDER CASE

Police in Wewak, East Sepik Province, are investigating the death of a man allegedly murdered in the early hours of Saturday.

East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Christopher Tamari confirmed that the deceased, identified as Richmond Aaron, was seriously wounded and rushed to Boram Provincial Hospital, where he later died on Sunday while seeking medical treatment.

Following the death, relatives lodged a formal complaint at the police station, naming suspects involved in the attack. Among those identified was the son of Wewak Member of Parliament, Stanley Samban.

Superintendent Tamari said MP Samban had informed police that his son was involved and assured authorities he would personally surrender him for investigation and appropriate charges. The MP flew into Wewak to ensure his son and other suspects were handed over to police.

According to initial reports, Richmond Aaron was the cousin brother of the suspect. He was allegedly caught in the suspect’s bedroom at the family home in Kreer Valley, Wewak, engaging in sexual intercourse with his own cousin sister the MP’s daughter and the suspect’s sister. This confrontation reportedly led to the violent attack in which Richmond was seriously injured.

During the surrender, MP Stanley Samban stated: “No one is above the law and I will not protect my son using my position. I am not condoning the matter. Law is for everyone, and anyone who breaches laws must be dealt with accordingly.”

Superintendent Tamari commended MP Samban for taking the lead in surrendering his son, describing him as “a true leader who takes law and order seriously.” He said the MP’s actions saved police time and resources in planning an operation to apprehend the suspects.

The investigation continues as police prepare to lay charges against those involved.
