Day two of the University of Goroka’s 29th graduation was celebrated yesterday with a total of 944 graduating in the Content Cohort. The event was held at the National Sports Institute in Goroka.
Asian Development Bank Project Manager Dr George Bopi, who was the guest of honour at the Graduation ceremony, emphasized on the importance of technical education as a demand in the workforce of the country.
As a former UOG student who began his career in teaching and worked his way up, Dr Bopi advocated on teaching as one of the professions that makes up almost 60% of the workforce.
Dr Bopi also pointed out that ADB has identified the lack of local technical human capital in the infrastructure development of the country. He said ADB is looking at investing into human resource. So far ADB has funded a total of 10 TVET centres in the country including the Goroka Technical College.
He congratulated the graduating students for their resilience to navigate through the setbacks and challenges.
Dr Bopi also commended the University of Goroka administration and council for their leadership that has so far seen a lot of developments at the University.
