OVER 400 UOG STUDENTS TO RE-SIT EXAMS NEXT YEAR

By Benorah Carrie Hesehing

A total of 451 University of Goroka students who missed their Semester Two external examinations will re-sit the exams next year.

The examinations were delivered online, which some students were unable to access. However, they will be given a second opportunity to sit the exams in early February 2026.

This was confirmed by UOG Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Mathew Landu.

Dr Landu said the affected students were unable to sit their examinations due to technical challenges, including poor internet connectivity in rural areas and related issues.

“We were to execute online examinations for a total of 8,585 students,” Dr Landu said.

“We successfully delivered 8,134 examinations, which is a 95 per cent success rate. The remaining five per cent will sit their exams in the first week of February 2026. Our technical team is currently working on upgrading our ICT capacity to cater for this.”

Dr Landu said the University of Goroka was forced to end the 2025 academic year a week early due to conflict between local residents and students. He said shifting to online examinations within a short timeframe was a necessary and resilient response to the situation.

He added that the university remains focused on maintaining quality standards, noting that achieving a 95 per cent success rate in its first online examination delivery was a significant milestone.

Going forward, Dr Landu said the university plans to further upgrade its ICT services and provide a more conducive and reliable learning environment across all campuses as part of its commitment to producing quality graduates.
