GGGI AND PNG POWER LIMITED SIGN MOU TODRIVE GREEN ENERGY TRANSFORMATION IN PNG

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and PNG Power Limited (PPL) have formalized a new partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to accelerate green, inclusive, and climate- resilient energy development across Papua New Guinea.
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework to support the design, development, financing, and implementation of PPL’s climate change investments, aligned with PNG’s national priorities, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Paris Agreement.
“This partnership represents a critical step toward Papua New Guinea’s clean energy transition,” said the Country Representative for GGGI Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu Muhammad Ali Shaikh.
“By combining GGGI’s global expertise in green growth with PPL’s central role in PNG’s energy landscape, we are paving the way for transformative, high-impact climate investments that will benefit communities nationwide,” he said.
Under the MoU, GGGI and PPL will work together on conducting feasibility studies, project design, and mobilizing climate finance for electricity infrastructure and green energy initiatives across PNG; strengthening PPL’s institutional, technical, and operational capabilities to improve service delivery and long-term sustainability of the electricity sector; increasing national and international public and private investment flows to turn green growth strategies into implementable projects; and undertaking additional areas of cooperation mutually agreed upon by both parties.
PNG Power Limited Chief Executive Officer Paul Bayly welcomed the partnership stating that PPL is ready to collaboratee with GGGI, to brings the technical expertise and global networks needed to unlock transformational energy investments.
“Together, we aim to deliver reliable, sustainable, and climate-resilient power solutions for the people of Papua New Guinea.” Bayly said.
