STUDENTS FOR CHRIST IGNITES SPIRITUAL REVIVAL IN WESTERN HIGHLANDS

By Ken Jacob, DWU Journalism Student

The Students for Christ Ministry hosted a major spiritual crusade at the border of Hagen Central and Mul-Baiyer District in Western Highlands Province.

President of Students for Christ and a final-year Mineral Processing Engineering student at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, Sakias Moses said SFC is a student-based ministry that operates from primary schools to tertiary institutions. He said the ministry was first established in 1975 at Fatima Secondary School in Jiwaka Province.

Moses said the vision of SFC is to raise “godly intellectual leaders” who can lead PNG with Christ like mindset.  Its mission is to reach students with the gospel so they can become agents of change in their communities and the country.

He said the founding father of the ministry, Evangelist and Pastor Clement Tep from the Moge Komonka tribe of Western Highlands, currently serves as the national director of SFC and is also the national president of Holy Spirit World Movement Ministry.

The crusade held last week was the third tertiary SFC crusade, specifically targeting communities living along the Hagen Central and Mul-Baiyer border. Moses said the ministry believes real change must start from educated people and flow down to communities. He said the tertiary team will continue reaching out to challenging communities around the province each year.

During the crusade, many people gave their lives to Christ and many others recommitted themselves.

National Coordinator for SFC, Malcolm Puk, said the crusade was organized to bring spiritual awakening, hope, and transformation to the people.

“The crusade aimed to win souls for Christ, revive believers, strengthen youth, promote unity in our churches and communities, and encourage moral and spiritual discipline,” Puk said.

“By God’s grace, many of these goals were achieved. Souls were saved, testimonies were shared, youth groups were strengthened, and local churches partnered together.”

He thanked God for His guidance and acknowledged the support from everyone.

Councilor of the host community, Plak Tei also expressed his gratitude for the ministry’s work.

“This is a big thing I’m seeing in my life and I am so thankful and grateful,” he said.

“I can see that only God’s word can change the lives of people. I am happy with this Students for Christ ministry. As I speak, I feel tears of joy. I praise God for this, and I pray that God will bless this ministry.”

For students, the event was a life-changing experience. Benjamin Ruben, a first-year Mineral Processing Engineering student at the University of Technology, said it was his first time attending an SFC convention.

“I was really thankful that God blessed us with powerful guest speakers filled with the Spirit of the Lord,” Ruben said.

“The gospel and the songs were wonderful. I enjoyed everything, and I felt blessed to join the SFC team. I knew the Holy Spirit was covering the environment.”

Moreover, preparations are already underway to host the next crusade in Tambul-Nebilyer District next year.
