Representatives of the Australian High Commission joined various partners in the 2025 Bel isi PNG Ending Violence Against Women Walk yesterday.
The walk, organised annually by Bel isi PNG, is a powerful demonstration of solidarity and shared responsibility. It brings together partners committed to creating safer spaces for women and girls, both at home and in the workplace, and throughout society.
Toviraka Amona, Acting Executive Director of Bel isi PNG, said that ending violence is everyone’s responsibility.
“Ending violence is everyone’s responsibility. By working together, we can build environments where dignity, respect, and safety are upheld for all,” Amona said.
Starting at Konedobu Oval, hundreds of participants walked through downtown Port Moresby to show their support.
Australia High Commission representative Minister Counsellor Elizabeth Le Bas expressed support for the initiative.
“Australia stands side by side, and walks step by step, with PNG in calling for an end to violence against women and girls,” LeBas said.
The Bel isi PNG Initiative is a unique public-private partnership supported by Australia through PNG Women Lead, providing family and sexual violence (FSV) prevention and support services to subscribing organisations.
These services enable employees and their families to access quality case management and safe house support. Bel isi PNG also supports subscribing companies in responding to FSV in the workplace through policy support and workplace contact team training for nominated staff.
