A total of K42, 560 worth of agronomic inputs were distributed to farmers of the Jiwaka Organic Food Farmers’ Cooperative (JOFFC) through the Fresh Produce Development Agency’s Market for Village farmers Project (MVF) through its special cost sharing grant recently.
A lead partner Agnes Merep said the JOFFC supports a total of 511 farmers in collecting and distribution of fresh produce to 2nd level aggregators and top end market buyers who will also benefit from the supplies.
Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA) Market for Village farmers (MVF) Project Manager, Joe Koima explained that the aim of this cost sharing arrangement is to lessen the burden faced by farmers in the purchase of agronomic inputs and offer a startup capital or assistance on which they can carry on from and maximize their returns.
Koima said the project team is delighted to support local communities in their farming business through the project.
He said the support will not only benefit the 14 farmers and lead partners who have so far benefitted from the arrangements since the inception of the MVF project.
He added the project expects this number to increase towards the end of this year.
However, farmers came as far as Jimi, North Waghi and within Anglimp South Waghi to receive their supplies that ranged from farming tools, pesticides, fertilizers, farming gear and seeds of their choosing.
