BISHOP URAME PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE HON. LUTHER AKISAWA WENGE

The Head Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELCPNG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Jack Urame, has expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Church at the passing of the Governor of Morobe and National MP, Hon. Luther Akisawa Wenge.

In his condolence message, Bishop Urame described the late Governor as a “great son of Morobe” whose life and service left a lasting impact on the province and the nation.

“We share with you the loss and pain of a great leader who dedicated his time and life for the people of Morobe and PNG as a civil servant and political leader for many years. His long record of service and leadership is a testament of his commitment and dedication to the country.”he said.

The bishop highlighted Wenge’s strong roots in the Lutheran faith, noting his passion for the Church and his embrace of the title “Songang” until his final moment.

“The Lutheran community will remember his favorite phrase: ‘Born as a Lutheran, Live as a Lutheran and die as a Lutheran,’” Bishop Urame said.

He further encouraged the people of Nawaeb, Morobe, and PNG to give thanks for the life of the late Governor, remembering his contribution to legislative reform and national debate on many burning issues of the country.

The message concluded with a reminder of God’s sustaining grace in times of loss:

“Christ said, ‘my grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak’ (2 Cor. 12:9). May this unfailing grace of God grant you peace and strength.”

Luther Akisawa Wenge is remembered as a dedicated leader, a faithful Lutheran, and a true servant of the people.
