CHURCH MEMBERS RECEIVE CERTIFICATES ON FINANCIAL LITERACY SKILLS

Over 40 Seventh-day Adventist Church members from the Eastern Highlands-Simbu Mission have completed a Financial Literacy Retail Training.

The 40 participants received certificates after completing a two-days training last week in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.

The training coincided with the second Church Development Council meeting held on July 27th at the EHSM headquarters.

The training focused on practical financial skills such as budgeting, saving, emergency planning and time management that was hosted by the Department for Community Development and Religion (DfCDR).

Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Jason Peter also encouraged the graduands and attendees to apply the skills obtained with discipline and to faithfully give one-tenth (tithe) of their earnings to God.

“Never forget to give your tenth [tithe] to the Lord. Leave your worries with him. He is the provider of all that you have and will have. Trust him in all your plans,” Jason said.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Angele Verefu expressed that the training had given them confidence to better manage their household income and she is considering starting a small informal business.

Following the certificate presentation, participants presented tokens of appreciation to the facilitators, acknowledging their guidance and dedication throughout the program.

The Informal Economy team from the Department is committed to expanding the community-oriented program to other parts of the country.

DfCDR Secretary Jerry Ubase and members of the PNG Council of Churches were also present to witness the official certificate presentation ceremony.
