The Sohe District Development Authority (DDA) has allocated K1 million) under the Public Investment Program (PIP/Kina to Kina) to strengthen the district’s economic sector, with a strong focus on Department of Agriculture and Livestock.
The funding was endorsed during the DDA board meeting held yesterday at Birdwing Lodge in Oro.
From the total allocation, K400,000 has been committed to support cash crops and cocoa fermentaries, and another K400,000 to Livestock. The remaining K200,000 will be distributed equally, with K50,000 each to four other key sectors: food security, fisheries, the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC), and SME/Commerce.
Sohe District member and DDA Chairman, Henry Amuli, said the shift in funding priorities comes after SME-related projects in the district failed to show meaningful progress or impact.
“Many of the small SME projects haven’t delivered results, so we’re now focusing on agricultural activities, which are more likely to create long-term benefits for our people,” Amuli said.
He further outlined new eligibility criteria for accessing SME support, stating that recipients must demonstrate commitment by securing at least two hectares of cocoa or land designated for other agricultural use.
“If you want to benefit from SME funds, you’re required to secure at least two hectares of cocoa or land for other agricultural purposes first,” he stated.
Amuli said, this is about ensuring our people are serious. We want to see them work the land, produce results, and earn a living through honest efforts.
The endorsement was supported by the DDA board members.
