Ongoing theft prompted closure of Vunapope Hospital

By Edwin Fidelis – EMTV News, Kokopo

The St. Mary’s Vunapope Hospital in East New Britain province has scaled down its operations yet again following a burglary incident over the weekend.

Medical service director of the hospital Dr. Felix Diaku has confirmed the closure stating it will remain close for an indefinite period to show their frustrations.

It is understood the hospital board has met today to discuss a way forward. The outcome of the meeting hasn’t been made public as yet.

This is the second time this year that the second largest referral hospital in the province has closed its doors to patients following ongoing theft within the hospital premises.

In November last year a similar occurrence prompted its closure for three days.

Its closure has affected the entire province.
