Gov’t plans to use electronic voting and counting for 2022 elections

The government is eyeing the use of electronic voting in the next national elections.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says the common roll update and other preparations will commence soon.

This comes after Rigo MP Lekwa Gure demanded answers if the Government has the capacity to use the electronic voting and counting system come 2022, at the recent parliament seating.

The Rigo MP is furious how the Government and responsible State agencies will change from the LPV system to electronic.

Gure also expressed concerns of the LPV system and the challenges. He says if the country is hoping to use electronic voting and counting, when will planning begin and by whom?

Mr. O’Neill assured the floor that work will commence in mid-2019.

He says the Electoral Commission and State will be adapting techniques used by India.

With much criticism of the use of the LPV system, PM O’Neill believes electronic voting and counting is the solution for a free, fair and safe election.
