Work on the controversial Duran Farm Housing Project in Port Moresby is set to recommence after being closed for almost 3 years.
Housing Minister, John Kaupa, says necessities like road, sewerage and electricity were not in place before housing structures were built. Kaupa says constant consultation with service providers will see these services installed.
A 15 week working deadline is being scheduled for the project.
“Work will begin with surveying by contracting so other necessary services are hooked up for residence who occupy the property,” said Minister Kaupa.
A comprehensive report outlines issues NHC needs to comply with, and settle out all survey plans to its proper plan. Much of the delay has been caused by fraudulent acquisitions and illegal transfer of titles that NHC has fully deliberated on with the Department of Lands and Physical Planning. NHC anticipates that construction of houses will be completed by August, with a capacity of 2,515 allotments for both residential and commercial tenancy.
Meanwhile, the Housing Minister says investigation into the unlawful transfer of 300 titles is with police to determine.
Eda Ranu, PNG Power, NHC and developer, Houseman Building Solutions, will work together to complete the housing project which was initiated in 2012.
