Schools in Madang Province are yet to receive their second batch of payment of the Tuition Fee Free funds this year and are now likely to send students home because of this.
Provincial TFF Coordinator, Igorura Dorea, says at least four high schools and 300 elementary and primary schools in the province will be affected if they do not receive the second part of the TFF funds on time. Mr. Dorea says some schools only got half of their TFF payment and not the full amount as before.
There are at least 1000 elementary, primary and secondary schools in Madang province and most of them are operating without Tuition Fee Free funds. Dorea, says most of the schools in the province will be forced to send students home if the delay continues. Most of the rural schools would be affected because they spend most of their money on transportation of school materials from the town area to their school.
Mr. Dorea says schools have not been providing acquittals of the TFF fund that have been given. He further stated that most schools in the province are not organised. The TFF coordinator says schools right in the town are also not submitting their acquittals. Thus the provincial education department has no knowledge of where, how and what they are spending their money on.
