Football Federation PNG’s President, John Kapi Natto, welcomed the decision by David Chung to step down as the President of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) yesterday.
Mr Kapi Natto said in a press conference today that since Chung has taken office, the level of football in PNG has dropped. Chung cited personal reasons for his decision but Mr. Kapi says Chung’s decision follows series of allegations of financial discrepancies in the OFC. He described PNG as a sleeping giant in terms of football.
This morning, an article released by New York Times revealed that Chung has resigned from growing pressure to step down after an audit conducted on behalf of FIFA. Mr. Kapi Natto says the kind of leadership and the decisions made has reflected on PNG’s Football performance in the recent past.
The OFC will meet tomorrow in Auckland, New Zealand, to appoint a new acting president and Mr. Natto has appealed for the new acting president. FIFA will send a delegation to Port Moresby to conduct investigations into PNGFA as well.
