Youth from Seventh-Day Adventist churches in Lae celebrated their Global Youth Day on the weekend by feeding over three hundred people in a community that lacks basic services.
The community is known as the second-seven-dump. Part of the area accommodates disposable wastes from companies and industries. It is located in Nawaeb District but under the administrative authority of Lae District.
The community leader, Simon Oumba, said this was the first time they have received support from others. Mr Oumba said most members of the community survive from the wastes. They lack basic services such as water and electricity.
The young people from Abong Tu and Red Rock SDA Church at the Backroad area in Lae, visited this community during their Sabbath School program and fed 350 people on Saturday.
This is an annual event the SDA Mission celebrates. This year’s theme is ‘Food & Water Drive’.
Members of the churches including children supported the youth and celebrated their annual Global Youth Day.
Youth leader of Abong Tu SDA Church, Ronice Kaviti, said it is everyone’s responsibility to visit such communities to help bring change.
