People confused after Earthquake

Communities struck by the 7.5 earthquake in Hela province remain confused as aftershocks continue.

Despite the arrival of National Disaster Officers in Tari yesterday, many remain traumatized.

Many say authorities must respond to evacuate those in rural areas who remain buried in landslips and need humanitarian assistance. Many Communities remain in doubt and need assistance. Aftershocks have been frequent, since Monday.

Many infrastructures were destroyed, especially roads and electricity. Most schools have been suspended, and health services closed.

Local authorities’ say the number of casualties remain unknown, with rescue missions yet to begin.

The Disaster Team will be visiting all affected areas to compile reports.
Director Mose says more work needs to be done, and authorities need to work together.

The massive quake was extraordinary and caused damages worth over half a million. Some locals have begun rebuilding what has been destroyed.

Air transport is the only mode of transport to remote areas where many communities were hit by the 7.5 earthquake.
