The Irish are in Town

The Irish touched down in Port Moresby today ahead of their clash against the Kumuls on Saturday. They were welcomed by a traditional singsing group at the Jacksons International airport.

The excited Irish players walked out to a rousing welcome by the people.

It is the first time for many of the players to visit Papua New Guinea, Coach Gary Aston, said he has worked with a few PNG players over the past few years, and was excited to have visited PNG.

This weekend’s match between PNG and Ireland is considered to be the match of the round with many watching to see who comes out on top, proceeding to the quarter-finals.

Ireland Captain Liam Finn is privileged to visit the Country. He was impressed with the Kumuls 50-6 win over Wales and said they will need a good plan to counter PNG’s physicality on game day.

Finn said to get a win over the Kumuls in Papua New Guinea will be a big achievement for the team. The Irish will take part in different community engagements before their match on Sunday.

The match kicks off at 4pm at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
