Don Polye’s Policy to focus on growing PNG’s economy

Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party Leader, Don Polye, says if he forms Government, he will create reforms to remove financial wastage.

In his strongest political statement yet, Polye says he can save the country K3billion in his first 100 days in office.

High on his agenda will be to get rid of the liabilities tied to the PNG LNG Project, which include the States 10.01% shares, which he says he will sell and direct the revenue back into the country.

Polye said the sale of the 10.1% share will give back at least K1.5billion which he says he will use to ease the current cash flow crisis.

The next thing Mr Polye says he will do is put in place systematic and legislative reforms. Among them, abolishing the Department of National Planning, amalgamating the Departments of Finance and Treasury, and bring them all under the Department of the Prime Minister.

Department Secretaries will go with this change. This he says will reduce massive costs and save the country much needed money.

“Immediately, when you start to do that, you are looking at saving K2-3 billion by making those adjustments. What I’ll do is cut down the expenditure at the top level here and we will build the district levels,” Polye said.

Polye said these changes will be done in response to the further downturn in oil prices and other economic challenges. He will also reduce DSIP funds to K5 million and increase LLG funding to K1 million.

“I’ll only do that to build capacity on the ground. At the moment, districts do not have the capacity, we don’t have public service there, we don’t have capability there. So the money goes down, it is abused all over the place and we need to tighten that up. So my immediate job [in] the first 100 days will be in-house keeping, management issues, rationalization of our existence as public servants,” he stated.
