US Embassy’s women empowerment program visits Caritas Technical Secondary School

Invest in your education, that was the message that was strongly emphasized during her visit to Caritas Technical Secondary School (CTSS).

Kate Hansen has a decade of experience working on top-tier national and state-wide political and issue-advocacy campaigns, as well as working for progressive elected leaders in both houses of Congress in the United States.

Her message during her talk with the girls from Caritas was clear;

“Education is key. Invest in your education, because somewhere along the line you will lose maybe your car, your home and other things, but you can never lose your education,” said Hansen.

She spoke highly of her mother, whom she said has had a big impact on her life. She also said that the people closest to you are the ones that believe in you the most.

“It’s the people that believe in you every day and encourage you to be a better person that will help you,”

She also encouraged the young girls to work hard and pursue their dreams.

CTSS Deputy Principal-Academic, Wilma Patenge, said that having Hansen there was perfect timing as it was orientation day, and this will motivate the girls to do their best this academic year.

Apart from wanting to know how Hansen felt working along-side politicians they also asked her questions on how she got through high school.

Hensan’s answer was simple: “It’s tough but you’ll manage, I did it you can too.”

The school was grateful of Hansen’s visit.

Hansen is in PNG as part of the US Embassy’s women empowerment program. She will depart for The Solomon’s and Vanuatu soon to conduct similar empowerment programs.
