Port Moresby Nature Park launches “Love Your Park” Membership Annual Campaign

The National Capital District, the main stakeholder of the Port Moresby Nature Park, funds more than K2 million into the park annually; however, this is not enough to maintain it.

This was revealed this morning by NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, at the launching of the “Love Your Park” annual membership campaign.

This initiative by the non-profit organisation is an opportunity to raise more funds to develop the park’s facilities dedicated to the promotion of flora and fauna.

Parkop, who was at the launching, called on Port Moresby residents to embrace the efforts of the park.

This membership campaign is great news for park lovers and Port Moresby residents, who enjoy the recreational attraction.

Membership of this campaign contributes to the park’s development in education programs, supports in conducting research and breeding programs, assists in support in conservation organisations and improves the parks facilities.

This campaign initiative is a first of its kind for the organisation, and a first for a recreational attraction in the country.

Annual membership fees are; K90 for adults, K60 for students with identification card and K30 for children.

Nature Park General Manager, Michelle McGeorge, believes the park is fulfilling the vision of the NCD Governor to become more than just a recreational attraction for the community.

“This program will provide members with the value for money with the opportunity to come and visit the Nature Park as much as they like, when they like and for as long as they like for a year,” said the General Manager.

Membership gives members privileges to discounts at the café and gift shop, invitations to special events and monthly newsletters.

McGeorge confirmed that Port Moresby residents are in for a treat this year, as the park will be holding a number of events as well as open new facilities.
