Commonwealth Youth Games 2017 in Bahamas

The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games is set to be staged in The Bahamas, as the Caribbean Island nation braces itself to host the event’s largest ever programme of team sports.

Forty-eight international sides were invited to compete at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.

The unveiling of the 48 international sides sets a record-breaking line-up that will generate opportunities for more than 300 young athletes from right across the Commonwealth, including rugby sevens, and for the first time ever on a Youth Games programme, beach volleyball and beach soccer.

A total of 24 teams are set to be fielded in beach volleyball, a sport which is due to make its debut in the Commonwealth Games programme on the Gold Coast in 2018.

The inclusion of beach soccer in the Bahamas 2017 programme as an additional team sport, will for the first time, see beach soccer played in the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The three codes of Rugby Sevens, Beach Volleyball and Beach Soccer are labelled as innovative and inspiring sports that will add to the thrilling dimension of the Caribbean’s celebration of sporting events.

Dubbed as the nation’s first-ever multi sporting event, and the largest ever addition of the Games with up to 1,300 athletes aged 14 to 18 set to participate in the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games due to run from July 19 to 23rd.

The 2017 Games will see 94 medals contested across 9 sports and will also see the introduction of 3 new sports, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball and Judo.

The women’s boxing and judo for both men and women will also debut at the Commonwealth Youth Games.⁠⁠⁠⁠
