Earlier last month, Cronulla Sharks’ Fullback, Ben Barba was tested positive for cocaine. This was during Australia’s National-Rugby-League-organised, Illicit Drug Testing Program.
The star player ,and one of the try scorers in Cronulla Sharks’ historic grandfinal win this year, may not make it back next year with the defending champions.
Barba was given a 12-month suspension by the NRL early last month, following the drug test’s outcome.
The test was apparently the second consecutive test in two years, that indicated Barba’s consumption of the illicit substance.
Barba’s suspension comes as a reminder of the ultimate penalty, if one is found to be consuming illicit substances, according to the NRL.
Speculations have arose that Barba will be joining the Japanese Rugby Union competition. But, this has been denied by teammate, Jack Bird, as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Bird affirmed that, the fullback will definitely make his comeback with the 2016 premiers.
Ben Barba himself, a father of four, has expressed remorse over the poor choices he has been making.
He is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and hopes to make it back into the Cronulla side, in the near future.
