The West New Britain Host Organising Committee for the 2016 PNG Games have announced the commencement of preparations for the province’s hosting of the games in 2016.

Through a media release, the committee stated that preparations would gain momentum in the New Year.

Chairman of the West New Britain Host Organising Committee, Dominic Kaumu congratulated Morobe for the successful staging of the games that ended on Saturday, and extended their gratitude to the 6th BSP PNG Games Host Organising Committee in Lae.

Mr Kaumu said that the committee was eager for work to progress on facilities for the games, in an efficient and timely manner.

He added that discussions for the securing of sponsors were well underway, to support the province’s hosting of the games come 2016.

Sport that are compulsory to the games, and other sporting codes and suitable venues and facilities for the staging of the sporting events, are of the committee’s priority.

“We are now in early discussions with the national government for a partnership in the construction of a multi-purpose sporting complex which will be the venue for multiple events”, said Kaumu.

He further added that with Kimbe being a small town, they were mindful of not having the facilities necessary to host as many sports as the committee would like; however, they are planning for as many events, for sporting codes, that the province is capable of accommodating for.
