West New Britain Province will host the 7th PNG Games in 2016.

Sport and 2015 Pacific Games Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, confirmed this today in parliament.

However, he said it will be a very expensive exercise for the government to set up new sporting facilities.

Minister Tkatchenko announced that West New Britain Province had won the bid to host the next PNG Games in 2016.

The bid was posted by the PNG Games Council for interesting provinces to apply to host the next PNG Games and West New Britain were successful.

WNB Governor, Sasindra Muthuvel said that he applied and won the bid and he had to pay a K10 000 fee.

Minister Tkatchenko said even though it is expensive to build new sporting facilities, he will support the governor.

Tkatchenko said that he is hoping for the PNG games to be moved to every 3 years and not 2 years.

This will make way for better organisation of the games, he said.

He said the 6th PNG Games in Lae has opened the eyes of the sports men and women, and had seen new talents and great competition.

He thanked the 6th PNG Games host committee for their efforts in organising the event and for the support given by all stakeholders.
