The team, under the mentorship of Douglas Mea, Lakani Oala, and Sir John Dawanincura, brought home spoils that were worth noting.
It was all smiles at the Jacksons International airport when athletes took the exit to a small but rowdy crowd of fans parents.
Tremendous efforts were put in by the Team under the mentorship of trio Sir John Dawaninicura, Lakani Oala and Douglas Mea, to bring home medals.
There was also a double celebration for young Fred Oala who was the recent recipient of the prestigious SP Sports Junior Male athlete of the year award.
Oala blitzed a strong field in the 56 kg men division with a snatch of 84, and clean and jerk of 110, totaling 194 to beat Delaney James of Australia who settled in for Silver and Katoatau Ruben of Kiribati.
Guba Hale’s outstanding performance was noted, arriving home a golden girl in the 69 Kg Women’s division. Sandra Ako also took gold in 69kg junior female division.
PNG Weightlifting President, Sir John Dawaninicura, was a proud man.
