Water and Sanitation Remains a Big Problem for Duke of York People

Water and sanitation remains a big problem for the Duke of York people of East New Britain province.

Despite a development boom happening in Kokopo, the 15,000 people on the nearby island continue to face a severe shortage of clean water and inadequate sewage disposal.

Drinking and cooking using uncleaned water from dug out water holes and bath using the sea, is considered a normal way of life on the island.
