TVET Program Helps School Leavers Pursue Their Education

Technical and Vocational Education Training programs, or TVET, provides an opportunity for school leavers to pursue their education in private and technical institutions.

Specifically the NCD and Moresby South TVET programs initiated by Governor, Powes Parkop, and Moresby South MP, Justin Thachenko, has funded over 50,000 students currently studying, and also in the workforce.

Mapex Traning Institute Managing Director, Marcus Kara, spoke to EMTV News about the significance of this program.

Over 50,000 students have benefited from the NCD and Moresby South TVET programs since its first inception in 2000; helping many unfortunate students to attend to the institution.

He added that this program also addresses law and order problems in NCD by educating youth to find full-time employment.

Between 2016 and 2017, Mapex Training Institute has enrolled over 500 TVET sponsored students.

From the TVET funding, over K800,000 allocated to the institution was used for the institution’s infrastructure development, in particuar student dormitories and learning facilities.

Annually, hundreds of students have gone through this educational program funded under the NCD and Moresby South electorate DSIP.
