Team East Sepik will be sending five sporting codes less than what they initially planned.
This was highlighted by General Team Manager Clarence Hukahu, following a K20,000 cheque presentation from Yangoru Saussia MP Richard Maru, in Wewak.
The team will only be sending eleven sporting codes to this year’s PNG Games. Since the beginning of the teams’ PNG Games preparations, athletes said the team has received very little financial support from business houses and electorate members in the province.
It was also revealed that most business houses were reluctant to support the team because of the players’ negative attitudes towards training.
From the money presented, K10,000 will pay levy fess for the kick boxing team, with K5,000 to each of the volleyball and soccer teams.
The money is from MP Maru’s discretion funds and the team is focusing on kick boxers to bring home gold.
Less than 200 athletes will be participating in the PNG Games in Lae. The team will be travelling to Madang by air and to Lae by road.
