Supporters Club ready for PNG

With Papua New Guinea set to play Tahiti in just five days time, the  Supporters Club for the PNG team was officially launched on Friday.

The Papua New Guinea Supporters club will be using its platform to assist the National teams, with funding and assistance.

While the organisation has been in existence since last year, the launch now, coincides with the Stage three World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Chairman of the PNG Football Supporters Club, Dr. Miok Komolong, says, without the backing of various corporate sponsors, the various PNG teams, ranging from the youth sides, straight through to the senior men’s and women’s squads, desperately needed assistance in their campaigns.

Currently, the focus with the organisation is the PNG Men’s Senior National team. Along with Player welfare, Komolong has also been concerned about how players can be compensated.

Vice President of the PNG Football Association, John Wesley Gonjuan is hoping to see a capacity crowd at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

He says he recognises the value of having supporters onboard, and acknowledged the 12-man group.

For those interested in joining the supporters group, they will be situated behind the goal posts at this coming Thursday’s Match between PNG and Tahiti.

Tickets are being sold at the EuroSport Shop at Vision City Port Moresby, for prices ranging from K10 to K30.

The match will be live streamed on EMTV Online’s streamcast page at; www.emtv.com.pg/streaming/ from 4:00pm.
