Subsidies Suspended To Build New High School

Wabag Open MP, Robert Ganim, has announced the suspension of funding for education subsidies this year.

The funds, he says, will be divert towards building a new high school in his electorate. Mr Ganim said numerous school fee requests from students in his electorate attending tertiary institutions in the country, will not be granted.

He urged all Engan students, including those in his electorate, to seek support from Enga Childrens’ Fund and Ipatas Foundation where monies for this purpose are held.

The former Enga Education Advisor said, the new day high school concept came about as a result of congestion at Wabag and Kopen Secondary schools, the only two secondary schools in Wabag district.

“Apart from this, the National Government is subsidizing school fees from elementary to tertiary levels. I urge parents to also play their part. They must not rely too much on the Government and Members of Parliament,” Ganim said.

Meanwhile, survey mapping for the new school has been completed, and now is in the process for State acquisition and registration before work can begin. The school will cost around K11 million.
