Sir Arnold Amet to Conduct Investigation into Killing of the Four men

PNG’s Former Chief Justice, Sir Arnold Amet will carry out an independent investigation into the killing of the four men during the Madang unrest earlier this month. This was announced by Madang MP, Bryan Kramer yesterday at the funeral service held at the Lutheran Memorial Church.

MP Kramer at the combined service, told the grieving relatives and the Madang Community that an investigation will be conducted by Sir Arnold Amet to find out how the four men were killed.

At 9am yesterday, relatives of the four men killed during the unrest in Madang came into town to take the bodies back to their villages for burial. More than twenty vehicles with police escort traveled from the Modilon Hospital morgue to the Lutheran Memorial Church where the funeral service was held before they will be put to rest. The funeral service attracted thousands of people to the church to pay their last respects to the four men killed. Also present to witness the funeral service and pay their last respect was Madang MP, Bryan Kramer and Director for Policy Planning and Monitoring Unit, Simon Simoi on behalf of Madang Governor, Peter Yama.

After the funeral service, the four bodies were taken back to their respective villages to be laid to rest.

Meanwhile, Police are maintaining control and set up roadblocks at Gum Bridge, Balasigo market and Handy mart service at New Town this morning to make sure there were no disturbances. Those caught with offensive weapons will be dealt with accordingly.
