Six sexually-related offences committed to minors were reported to Port Moresby police, since last Thursday.
Though this is a decrease to what was reported last week, the NCD Metropolitan Superintendent said sexual offences remain the highest offence committed in Port Moresby.
These statistics were released in a media brief this morning.
The NCD Metropolitan Superintendent said because most sexual crimes against minors are committed by trusted individuals, parents and guardians should never leave their children unsupervised.
“The abuse is done by the person closest to them. Never leave your children unattended.”
Last week, 13 sexually-related crimes were registered with Police. Half of these cases were committed against minors.
Meanwhile in other offences, police reported four armed robbery cases, five stolen vehicles and one fraud-related case.
