The Birip-Lukitap Road Project, built by the Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA), has enabled women farmers in the Aiyel Valley of both the Wabag and Wapenamanda districts to bring their fresh produce to local markets and earn a steady income.

Spokeswoman Everlyn Sap said they have organised women in the Aiyel Valley area to ensure their fresh produce is sold on time, allowing them to make consistent profits for themselves and their families.

She acknowledged the WDDA for connecting Aiyel Valley with a reliable road network, which is currently in the sealing stage, enabling women to transport their produce to Wabag and Wapenamanda for marketing.

She said WDDA has assisted several local organisations in the area to venture into farming and coffee nurseries, with the road serving as a vital link for economic activities to thrive in the Aiyel Valley across both districts.

The Aiyel Valley, located along the electoral borders of the Wabag and Wapenamanda electorates, is known for its rich, fertile soil where organic produce such as sweet potatoes, taro, bananas, and potatoes, along with a variety of fruits and vegetables, is grown in abundance.

A women’s organization in the area, the Voice of Enga Women Farmers, has taken the first step in organizing women to venture into agribusiness.
