Red Cross Provincial Reps Trained in the Areas of integrated vulnerability capacity

By Lilian Sopera Keneqa – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Twenty one provincial representatives from nine branches flew into Port Moresby to attend a five day Disaster Management Training hosted by the PNG Red Cross Society.

These participants are provincial reps for the Red Cross Society from each of its nine branches. The participants received specific training in the areas of integrated vulnerability capacity assessment. The training started last week Thursday, and ended today.

Sandaun Branch Rep, Juddie Saroya, said the training inspired her and she sees the need to train volunteers in her province.

New Ireland Province Branch Rep, Lyle Alickson has been to many trainings involving disaster management, but says this one impacted her greatly.

Many participants appreciated the fact that the focus was on working closely with the community. When the participants return back to their provinces, they will need to work closely with the government and stakeholders to write up a provincial risk profile.

This 5 day event was funded by the Australian Red Cross, through the Australian government to support disaster programs.
